LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - How to take care of our loved ones once they reach a certain age is an issue that is becoming a reality to many families around the nation.

You know we are all getting older. I hate that, but it is what it is, and of course, it's better than the alternative. If you have that special loved one in your life, they are getting older, and they can no longer take care of themselves, you could put them in assisted living or a nursing home, but that might not be the right option for your family. First of all, they may not want to go, and second of all, that costs so much money.

You might want to consider building a second dwelling on your property. It doesn't cost quite as much as you think it does. What's great about it is that it does increase the value of your home, but what is even better is when that special someone lives there. They can still live an independent life. If you build it close enough to your house, you can keep an eye on each other.

Another thing you can do in the meantime if you happen to build that second dwelling is that it can become the man cave for that special man in your life. And, ladies let's face it, they clutter up your house. Now they have their own space to do what they want to do, and your marriage is going to do so much better.

Now there are a few things you need to consider if you are looking for an existing property that has two structures on it:

    1) Some loans will not cover the two, so you will have to check on that.
    2) If you buy a home and you build a second dwelling, it has to be on its own separate septic tank if you live out in the country.
