Prosecutors drop death penalty for Brandon Johnson

    The decision comes after doctors determined 22-year-old defendant Brandon Dewayne Johnson's IQ is 55. The U.S. Supreme Court and Arkansas law prohibits the execution of those with an IQ of 65 or below.

    Johnson is charged in a string of armed robberies and holdups from September 2008 and January 2009. He's charged with killing three men, including University of Arkansas for Medical Services instructor Joseph Bittengle during that time.

    Circuit Court Judge Marion Humphrey rejected a defense claim that Johnson is not competent to stand trial.
