(CNN) -- Former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling is asking permission to leave prison to attend his son's funeral. Skilling's attorney made the request Thursday.

John Skilling, 20, was found dead in his college dorm room earlier this week.

He attended Chapman University, a liberal arts school in Orange County, California. A toxicology report is underway.

His father is serving 24 years for insider trading charges and other crimes related to the collapse of Enron.
