LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Prosecutors waived the death penalty for suspects accused in a deadly mall shooting in February.

The two suspects in the case are Deonte Edison, 18, and Tristan Bryant, 20. They are accused of shooting and killing Christian Hayes, 25, in the food court of Park Plaza mall after hours on February 28. A female was also shot and treated for serious injuries.

Edison and Bryant were each charged with one count of capital murder and one count of attempted capital murder.
The death penalty option was dropped after prosecutors talked with the victims' families; they consented not to utilize capital punishment in this case.

The decision was made during a video arraignment hearing Monday afternoon. Their next court hearing is October 1. Edison's jury trial is scheduled to take place October 8-11, 2013 and Bryant's is set for November 5-8, 2013.
