UNDATED (USA TODAY) -- TV self-help guru Dr. Phil was catching a lot of grief on social media Tuesday after he tweeted, and quickly deleted, this question to his 1.2 million followers:

"If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil #teensaccused"

Mediaite rounds up some of the best responses. A couple of the more pointed ones:

Rob Delaney: "Aren't you married? RT @DrPhil: If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil "

Andy Levy: "Are you "asking for a friend"? RT @DrPhil: If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @drphil "

Here's a Storify of more reactions to Dr. Phil's tweet that range from humorous to outraged.

Of course, the inevitable #DrPhilQuestions hashtag quickly started trending on Twitter, with predictable results:

Abbi Crutchfield: "Can ah have a moment to explain exactly wut is goin on here at are studios with the interns on the Tweeter? "

UPDATE: A representative for Dr. Phil's show responds to a question from Buzzfeed about the deleted tweet: "This tweet was intended to evoke discussion leading into a very serious show topic. It was not intended to be taken lightly. It's based upon a recent news story, hence the #teensaccused label."
