NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Shelly the Horse has announced his retirement from the Arkansas Travelers.
The announcement came Monday through the Travelers Facebook page. Shelly
has been a mascot for the Travelers for the past 17 years.
Leslie Baker, Director of Community Relations for the Travs, stopped by the THV 11 Weather Garden with Shelly to discuss why the mascot decided to retire.
"Shelly came into the office on Monday, put his resignation letter in and decided that he wants to enjoy his summers off, take some summer vacations, spend time with his family and rest his legs; he's had a lot of running to do," Baker explains.
The team will pay tribute to Shelly at a retirement party tonight, August 31. Fans will have an opportunity to get an autograph, a picture with Shelly and the chance to say goodbye.
Gates open at 6:10 with the game beginning at 7:10. Box seats are $12, reserved seats are $8 and outfield grass berms and bleachers are $6. Purchase single game tickets at the gate or online here.
A fireworks show will take place after the game between the Travelers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals, in honor of Shelly.
