NASHVILLE, TN (CNN) -- A fencing instructor foiled an alleged robbery, and he was even dressed to do battle as he chased down the suspected thieves.
As a result, Michael Butt and Zachary Johnson were charged with robbery.
Franco Scaramuzza says it started when he was pulling into a shopping center in the Nashville area.
He says he saw two men use pepper spray against a couple, and then steal a purse.
So he jumped out of his car and grabbed his fencing sword. He had just finished practice, so he was already on guard with the full outfit.
Franco Scaramuzza says, "I charged towards them, holding my épée up high, you know, yelling at them. I kept yelling throughout the entire thing. They completely panicked and dropped everything they stole and really took off."
Police showed up and caught the suspects within minutes. Butt and Johnson were jailed on $50,000 bond each.
Johnson's girlfriend says her boyfriend didn't do it and says police picked up the wrong guy.
