MEMPHIS, TN. (WREG) -An overnight fire has claimed the life of a 5 year-old Memphis girl.
The Memphis Fire Department reports getting the call on the fire shortly after midnight, with firefighters bringing the flames under control about a half hour later.
Witnesses reported seeing heavy fire visible from the one story wood frame home in the 22 hundred block of Riley Ally just a couple of blocks South of the intersection of Lamar and Airways.
A search of the property turned up the body of an unidentified 5 year old female.
The Shelby County Medical Examiner will determine a cause of death.
Two adults and one other child escaped from the home before the Fire Department arrived.
Firefighters say the home did not have a working smoke detector.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the people left homeless in the fire.
