LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas State Claims Commission is recommending UAMS the family of a patient after being found negligent in the patient's death.

Commission Director Norman Hodges recommended UAMS pay $1.2 million to the family of Rodney Miller.

Miller was admitted to the hospital in 2009 for head injuries he got during an ATV accident. Miller had surgery for his injuries, but a few days later while in the hospital he fell and hit his head, causing his death.

Andrea Peel with UAMS sent a statement to THV 11 News on the commission's findings saying, "While this is a tragic event we disagree with the claims commission's ruling and don't feel that there was any negligence on the part of UAMS in this case."

The claim will be reviewed by the Legislature for approval during next year's fiscal session.
