    Dumas pharmacy owner shoots, kills man

    DUMAS, Ark. (AP) - Police in Dumas say a pharmacy owner shot and killed an apparent would-be robber.

    Police said Meador Pharmacy owner Bill Canada shot and killed 31-year-old Tavell Lawson early Friday.

    Police say Canada told investigators that he opened his store about 5:30 a.m. Friday and when he stepped outside that a man wearing a mask approached him with a gun and demanded money.

    Canada said he tried to escape and told the man to stop - but the man followed him. Canada says he then pulled out a gun and shot the man.

    Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene.
