LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Philanders Smith College and Krav Fit tried to raise awareness about domestic violence through an Israeli martial art Saturday.
The self-defense seminar taught students and their family members the basics of Krav Maga, the official self-defense system of the Israeli Defense forces and a required training for most law enforcement agencies here in the US.
Student Coordinator Chelsea Fox brought the event to campus because she feels everyone should be able to protect themselves.
"We just decided to self defense and domestic violence week because in October there's always pink, pink, pink and I feel very strongly about that, but domestic violence is like a taboo that nobody talks about," Fox explained.
According to an FBI study, domestic violence is one of the most under-reported crimes in the US.
