Magnolia, Ark. (SAU) - After taking a loss to SAU Blue on in the opening game on Monday night, SAU Gold made a strong comeback by winning three consecutive games, giving them the title of Fall World Series Champions. SAU Gold won by three runs in the fourth game, with a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field.
SAU Gold took the lead in the first inning as Ryan Dardenne scored on a double by Telvin Darden. Dardenne reached base earlier in the inning as he singled up the middle with two outs. The following two innings were quiet for both teams as neither managed to score.
The fourth inning was SAU Blue's best scoring opportunity to that point in the game, as Carver Rademacher was advanced to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Korey Keith after his leadoff hit. Rademacher then advanced to third on a wild pitch, but did not score as Rod Lewis flew into an inning-ending double play.
The bottom of that inning was more productive for SAU Gold as they scored a pair of runs off a two-run homerun by Trevor Rucker.
SAU Gold scored their final two runs of the game in the fifth to give themselves a 5-0 lead through five innings.
Blake Sullivan pitched four shutout innings for SAU Gold, only giving up three hits and earning the win in the game. Tate Smith came in as relief for Sullivan in the fifth, and allowed no hits until the top the seventh inning, where he gave up four hits, allowing SAU Blue to score two runs, cutting SAU Gold's lead down by three.
SAU Blue made that seventh inning interesting as they employed a serious rally with two outs in the frame. Twice after that, SAU Blue sent either the tying or go-ahead run to the plate. The first time was when Tyler Cameron batted with the bases loaded and SAU Blue trailing 5-1. Cameron would single up the middle in that at bat to drive in Davis Wilson. The second time came in the next at bat as Drew Bennefield pinch hit for Rademacher. Bennefield would strike out in the at bat, ending the game and the series.
Despite the series being over, one more game will be played between the two on Friday, October 25th, at 5:30 p.m. at Goodheart field at Walker Stadium.
