    Blue Jays announce DeRosa retirement

    Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that infielder Mark DeRosa has decided to retire after 16 major-league seasons.

    DeRosa came to the Jays thanks to a one-year, $750,000 contract, with a club option for 2014, signed this past January. He contributed a .235 average, seven home runs, 12 doubles and 36 RBI to the AL East's last-place club in 2013.

    In 1,241 career games with the Braves (1998-2004), Rangers (2005-06), Cubs (2007-08), Indians (2009), Cardinals (2009), Giants (2010-11), Nationals (2012) and Blue Jays, the New Jersey native and Penn product posted a .268 average with 100 home runs, 196 doubles and 494 RBI.
