LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The President announced on Thursday that the federal government would delay enforcement of the Affordable Care Act's market reforms in 2014 for plans that are currently in effect.

The Arkansas Insurance Department took steps on March 15 to provide carriers the option to extend current plans by issuing Bulletin 7-2013.

The majority of carriers writing individual health insurance policies in Arkansas have chosen to extend coverage through December 30, 2014. This action allowed Arkansas to keep their existing health coverage though calendar year 2014.

For Arkansans who have a health insurance plan that they can continue for another year, it may be to their advantage to shop for plans on the health insurance marketplace. They may qualify for a plan which has better benefits plus they may qualify for premium tax credits which will assist with premium costs.
