LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV)- Travelers along interstate 40 in Arkansas have reported major delays in Forrest City, where a construction zone has reduced the highway to one lane in each direction.
THV spoke with a number of drivers who said they waited as long as 45 minutes to get through the 8-mile construction zone. "Everybody was totally stopped and traffic was not moving at all," said Jacob Tews. "We got off the road and took Highway 70 which runs parallel to the interstate."
The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department recommends drivers follow Tews' route and exit the highway before Forrest City.
Drivers can visit idrivearkansas.com for information on detours to the north and south of I-40. "My brother's a truck driver so he knows a detour for us so we'll probably call him before we get into that area," said Rodanthi Lews. "We'll see if we can get around it."
AAA predicts roughly 39 million drivers will hit the road this Thanksgiving and many will drive through Arkansas along interstate 40. Travelers can also see live traffic conditions around the state at idrivearkansas.com.
