TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - The head of the Public Works Department in Texarkana, Ark., says people who visited downtown Monday night for a Christmas parade left behind a pile of garbage.
Paul Hackleman said in a story published by the Texarkana Gazette on Wednesday that he was disgusted by the amount of trash, which county inmates cleaned up during the day Tuesday.
He said visitors to the 29th Annual Main Street Christmas Parade had 41 trash cans available.
Hackleman suggested that the city start a campaign to tell people to take their trash away with them after they are out in public and to throw it away at home. He said he was thankful that inmates from the Community Corrections Department were available to clean up.
