NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (December 2, 2013) - On Wednesday at 10 a.m., a small press conference and check presentation took place at the Wal-Mart Super Center located at 4450 East McCain Boulevard. During this press conference, four checks were presented to the North Little Rock Police Department to help fund the eighth Annual "Shop with a Cop." Checks were presented by Wal-Mart, Old Chicago Pizza NLR, Pinnacle Pointe Hospital, and John and Angelica Rogers, Candlewood Suites.
In 2006, the "Shop with a Cop" program was formed and that first year was able to assist 8 children. Because of generous donations from businesses and individuals in the community over the last several years, the program has grown each year. This year, the "Shop with a Cop" program will be able to assist over 100 children.
This year, "Shop with a Cop" will take place on Sunday, December 8th and Sunday, December 15. Each child will receive a $200 Wal-Mart gift card and will be assigned to a police officer. The officers will escort their child through Wal-Mart helping them select gifts for their family members as well as themselves.
The North Little Rock Police Department believes this is a true opportunity to not only give back to our community, but to build special relationships with children by spending quality time with them. Programs like "Shop with a Cop" build trust with not only the children involved but with the community we serve on a day to day basis.
