LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Arkansas Department of Health said five people have died from the Flu.

Since Sept. 29, they've confirmed a total of 73 flu cases. Flu activity is increasing across the state and is expected to increase, and the health department is urging everyone to get vaccinated.

On Monday, the ADH said that two of the five flu deaths so far have been children, and the other three were middle-aged adults.

Texas has been hit the hardest, reporting more than a dozen deaths.

About 95 percent of the Texas influenza cases are H1N1, also known as the swine flu.

"We don't know from year to year how the flu will be spread. To prevent the spread, the best way to do that is to get the shot or the nasal spray," explained Jennifer Dillaha, director of the immunization program.

The Centers for Disease Control reported widespread infection rates in several states including Alabama, Louisiana and New York.
