ENGLAND, Ark. (KTHV) - Kevin Cauley feels lucky to be alive after his truck ran into a 380 pound black bear on Highway 13 last Wednesday.
Cauley was returning from a Christmas dinner with family when the bear lunged in front of his Ford F-150.
"The only thing I had time to say was 'bear,' and I hit the brakes, and it was a wild ride," recalled Cauley. "Everybody that pulled up there said, 'Are you sure you hit a bear?' And, then we found the hair in the wheel."
Cauley's fiancé was also in the car, and they are both recovering from minor injuries and soreness. The next morning, he found the bear submerged in water just feet from the site of the accident.
"I've never been bear hunting," he added. "I've got deer mounted, and it's something to remember Christmas by. It will be a Christmas I'll never forget; I'll put it that way."
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission was notified and gave Cauley permission to have the bear skinned and cleaned. He told THV11 that he will have it made into a rug for his home.
