LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Ringing in the New Year is expected to be exciting around the city of Little Rock, and the Little Rock police are hoping that excitement is of the safe variety.
There's a new tradition starting on the Riverfront tonight: Little Rock's own version of a midnight ball drop along with a concert.
Police are already spreading across the city preparing for the parties and the disturbances they often see on New Year's Eve.
"Officers are going to be responding to a lot of house parties. Whether at a residence or in an apartment complex and those parties are going to involve alcohol. We're hoping those calls are few and in-between," said Lt. Sidney Allen.
Allen said the Little Rock department is usually busy with drunk driving enforcement and has to respond to numerous calls for shots fired.
The city wants to remind everyone it's illegal to fire a weapon within the city limits.
