CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) - Early voting began on Tuesday to replace state senator Paul Bookout.

Bookout resigned his district 21 seat in northeast Arkansas in August after an ethics commission found he spent campaign money on personal items.

Republican John Cooper is facing Democrat Steve Rockwell in the special election.

This is the first election where new voter ID laws are in place. That means you must have photographic ID to vote.

Early voting lasts until next Monday.

The special election is set for Tuesday, January 14th.
