PINE BLUFF, Ark. (KTHV) - A Dollarway High School student died after passing out while playing basketball at his school on Wednesday night.
According to Pine Bluff Police Department PIO, Richard Wegner, 17-year-old Tabarres Miller passed out while playing in a game on Wednesday evening, and died shortly afterwards. Tameka White with the Dollarway School District said Miller was not on the school's basketball team.
"He's done it before. He gets to playing and gets dehydrated. Really I didn't have time to think about anything just hoping it was one of those things," said Tabarres' mother, Lorraine Miller.
Paramedics attempted to revive Miller, but were not able to. Grief counselors were at the school Thursday to help students and teachers cope with the passing of their classmate.
"The student body when they found out this morning they were really shocked and hurt. You can really tell he was loved by a lot of people. He's come up through the district so a lot of councilors say they remember having him," said Tameka White of the Dollarway School District.
