ARLINGTON, VA (CBS) -- The secretary of the Air Force says a total of 92 missile launch officers are now implicated in a growing exam cheating scandal.
Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James initially said 34 officers were being investigated for cheating on a proficiency test at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana.
But James told reporters Thursday the number has now risen to 92.
She continued to stress that she remains confident that the nuclear mission and the weapons themselves remain safe regardless of the test cheating. She said there are "systemic" problems among the officers who oversee the nuclear missiles, and pressure to make perfect scores on the test drove the airmen to cheat.
