LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and Rep. Rick Crawford say the U.S. Army has clarified its criteria on ROTC program reviews and closings.
The Army announced in October plans to close the ROTC program at Arkansas State University - leading Pryor, Boozman and Crawford to call for more information about how the decision was made.
The lawmakers said in a news release Friday that the Army has agreed to consider a school's investments in ROTC and to evaluate programs on production; quality; academic and geographic representation; and cost.
Pryor - a Democrat - calls the decision a "positive development" while Boozman - a Republican - said the Army is re-setting its evaluation process. Crawford - also a Republican - says he believes ASU will surpass all expectations.
