LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Okay, lets turn on the scoreboard. It's time for winners and losers, and after a week when our weather out-wintered Sochi, we don't have to go far.
Winner: Old Man Winter, who was really young man winter. He was the number one topic of conversation from coast to coast and all over Arkansas, and quite simply has become the party guest that won't leave.
Loser: Power lines. In the contest between fallen limbs and Arkansas power lines, it's obvious who is going to win in that contest. On behalf of all who saw their power go off then on thanks to heroic efforts by linemen, thank you.
Winner: Salt. It became just about the only way to fight the ice and snow. All roads led to the salt mound. Cities were forced into sharing excess amounts. You just know the salt distributors were getting peppered with calls.
And they're off. Not only that, they're closed. Loser: Oaklawn. The whole weekend got cancelled. The employees who missed work are the real victims here. The prize money wasn't lost. It will get redistributed but lost wages won't be made up.
Loser: Debit cards. At one time they were faster, more convenient, and more advanced than checks, so we all used them...maybe too much.
Now, they're considered to be a far greater security risk than credit cards.
And our final winner on tonight's big show: The Beatles.
For baby boomers, Sunday night's tribute to the Beatles on CBS in honor of the night they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, brought it all back. The music, the screaming, the wild haircuts, which in today's world would seem so tame. Now, the Beatles, with those haircuts, could easily get into Catholic High.
