LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - One month after teachers began carrying guns in the Clarksville School District, school leaders reported that things are running smoothly.

"I think that the public perception was that, you know, John Wayne was going to be up here in the classrooms teaching, and that's just not the case at all," explained Clarksville superintendent Dr. David Hopkins. "You know, the firearms are concealed. You can't see that they're on the person, and it's just business as usual."

The district did make a few changes to the plan. They originally thought they'd team up with Johnson County Sheriff's Office and have the teachers deputized as an added security feature; however, the district no longer thinks that much additional training is necessary.
