JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and First District Congressman Rick Crawford are asking the Army for information about its decision to close Arkansas State University's ROTC program.
Pryor - a Democrat - and Boozman and Crawford - both Republicans - joined ASU officials in an hour-long conference call with Army officials in an effort to reverse the decision to shut down the 77-year-old program. The Army notified ASU earlier this month of the decision.
Arkansas State spokesman Jeff Hankins said Friday that during the Wednesday call the federal lawmakers criticized the Army's failure to give the ASU notice of the possibility of a closure or to provide deficiencies found in the program.
The lawmakers asked that Army provide the information within a week.
