LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Little Rock school board denied a new charter school from coming into the district.

Exalt Academy wanted to open a school in southwest Little Rock, but the board said, aside from budget concerns, they did not see where this school would offer any new ways of teaching.

"This board has previously approved two charter schools where they did see innovative approaches and efforts to help high poverty students, but this - they didn't see those factors," said LRSD Attorney, Chris Heller.

Since the district voted no, the issue moves on to the state department of education where a new law this year appointed a special committee to review charters.
