LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - It takes a lot of research to figure out which college degree is right for you. Now, a new study may help with your decision.
Yahoo released the top six degrees that make you indispensable to your employer.
An Associate's degree in Dental Assisting came in at number 6. A Bachelor's in Graphic Design is number 5, followed by a Bachelor in Finance, and then a bachelor in Elementary Education.
The runner-up was Accounting, and the number one most vital degree is a Bachelor's in Computer Science.
Dr. Janet Bailey, a Management Information Systems professor with UALR explained why: "Technology expands everything that we do, there are so many opportunities and it is impossible for any one department to provide the training that is needed."
Jan Sikorsky, VP of education at Envision, said understanding technology is vital to helping any business success in the digital age.
According to another recent study, once you have those degrees, you may not want to pursue them in Arkansas.
It listed Arkansas as one of five states where wages are not growing and job creation is falling behind.
The national unemployment rate has fallen from a peak of 10 percent in October 2009 to 6.7 percent.
Arkansas' average wage has improved over the past year, but the number of jobs have fallen.
Researchers were surprised by the results when you consider the companies based in our state, such as Wal-Mart, Tyson and Dillard's.
Arkansas also has the second lowest median household income in the country - close to 40,000.
