BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's Salt Bowl week in central Arkansas as Benton and Bryant High Schools ramp up to Friday night's football showdown at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
The rivalry dates back to 1974, last year more than 22,000 fans showed up to see Bryant win 55-21. Students at both schools have also been competing off the field in a blood drive and seeing which student body can gather the most peanut butter for the Rice Depot.
There's also a Coaches Text for Cancer competition raising money for the American Cancer Society. Bryant's pep rally will be Tuesday evening, Benton's on Wednesday; both start at 6:00 pm at Everett Buick GMC.
On Friday "Arkansas' Largest High School Tailgate Party" starts at 5:00 pm outside War Memorial Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7:30. Tickets to the Salt Bowl cost $8.00 the day of the game, or can be bought in advance at any central Arkansas Big Red Valero locations for $10, those advance tickets also come with a t-shirt.
