FRISCO, Texas (UCA) - Central Arkansas earned the top seed in the 2013 Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament, which is slated to begin Friday at the Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Central Arkansas (26-3, 18-0 Southland) won its second consecutive regular-season title is the defending tournament champion. The Sugar Bears will try to become the first team to repeat as tournament champion since former Southland member Texas State won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005.
Central Arkansas became the fifth team since 2000 to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play with an 18-0 record. UCA is riding a 19-match win streak into the postseason and has won its last 25 matches against league opponents dating back to last season. Central Arkansas will square off with No. 8 seed Stephen F. Austin (16-15, 8-10 Southland), Friday at 4 p.m. The Ladyjacks lost both matches in straight sets to Central Arkansas in the regular-season. Stephen F. Austin earned the No. 8 seed after dropping its season finale to Northwestern State.
The championship match will be carried exclusively on ESPN3. The quarterfinal and semifinal matches of the tournament will be streamed live on the Southland Conference Digital Network, available at southland.org and on the league's iPhone and Android mobile and tablet apps.
