FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Women's cross country and track and field athlete Sandie Raines has been chosen represent the United States this weekend at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in Tobago. Raines will represent her country on the junior team in the 4,000-meter race on Saturday, February 22, facing athletes from Central America and the Caribbean. She is the first Razorback to compete in the cross country championships.

This fall, Raines posted consistent top-five finishes, helping the Razorbacks to an SEC Championship Title. Following the SEC Championships, Raines earned a top 20 finish at the NCAA South Central Region Championships, helping to guide her team to the regional title for a berth to the NCAA Championships.

Raines' success has continued into the indoor track and field season. The freshman ran her first 5,000-meter run at the Husky Invitational last weekend, recording a time of 16:22.71 to finish second in her heat. Earlier in the season, she recorded a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter against No. 1 Texas at the Arkansas-Texas Dual with a time of 9:48.67.

"Raines obviously was our freshman sensation from this past cross country season, always in our top-five scoring," said Head Coach Lance Harter. "The success she had through the fall allowed the selection committee to take notice and invite her to compete for the U.S. What a great experience to represent your country."
