ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (HSU) - Henderson State scored three runs in the fourth-inning and held on to beat East Central 4-3, Saturday in Great American Conference softball at Dee White Field.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third-inning, Amber Klug put Henderson State on the board with a RBI single to score Tricia Hock who began the inning with a single.
The Lady Reddies 5-10 overall and 1-3 in the GAC, erupted for three runs the following inning as Hock laced a double in the gap to score Sarah Gipson who walked earlier in the inning.
Amy Halter then delivered a two-out, two-run triple to give the Lady Reddies a 4-2 advantage.
ECU, 11-6 overall and 3-1 in league play, threatened in the seventh-inning, putting together three straight hits.
After giving up a run, HSU starting pitcher Hannah Bender was relieved by Ashlyn White. White managed to get the final out of the inning as Lacey Williams grounded out to second to end the game.
Bender picked up the win in the circle to improve to 2-1 on the season, while White was credited with her first save.
In game one, ECU banged out 10 hits and got home runs from Leah Tigert, Jordynn VanPelt and Gina Menwasser to beat the Lady Reddies 11-3.
Henderson State scored three runs in the first-inning with White having a two-run single. ECU then scored 11 unanswered runs, while the Lady Reddies managed just two more hits in the game.
White led the Henderson offense in the four-game series going 5-for-11 with four RBI, while Klug was 4-for-11 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.
The Lady Reddies will next play host to Arkansas-Monticello in a four-game GAC series beginning Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Dee White Field.
