INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Univ. of Ark.) - University of Arkansas sophomore All-American Lauren Jordan clocked a 2:15.70 in the 200-meter backstroke for a 23rd-place finish in the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.
Jordan sat back in eighth place before making a move in the last 100 meters, finishing fifth in her heat. Jordan was seeded 37th overall, making up 13 spots with her strong swim. Jordan will return to the pool in the 1500-meter freestyle on Saturday. Jordan earned All-America honors in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championship with a ninth-place finish.
Sophomore Nikki Daniels will represent the Razorbacks on tomorrow in the 50-meter breast and Friday in the 100-meter breast. The sophomore earned All-America status with a head-turning performance at the NCAA Championship, where she clocked a 59.18 to finish fourth nationally.
Daniels and Jordan are looking to earn spots on the World Championship team, which will be announced at the close of competition on Saturday. The 15th FINA World Championships will take place in Barcelona, Spain, July 19-August 4, 2013. In order to qualify for the USA team for the 2013 FINA World Championships, swimmers must be one of the top two finishers in each of the Olympic events other than the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle.
