UNDATED (KTHV) -- New climate data or normals have been released. Ed explains what this means in this edition of Weather 101.

Climate normals are based on 30 year averages. On August 1st, the National Weather Service switched to the 30 year period from 1981-2010. The previous "normals" were based on the 30 year period of 1971-2001.

The new climate data came out to be .5 degrees hotter than the previous 30 year period. As Ed explains, it can't be directly because of climate change.
