LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The heavy storms that swept through the area Sunday evening damaged a church in downtown Little Rock.
Firefighters responded to a lightning strike at Quapaw Methodist Church, located at the corner of 17th and Main Streets.
The only noticeable damage was to a few bricks on the building.
Dominique Simmons was the only person inside the church when the lightning struck. She hear a loud explosion and then realized it must have hit something nearby.
"I looked outside and I thought it had hit the tree that was very close to my windows, and I didn't see any smoke or damage so I thought the best thing to do was to turn out the lights and leave," Simmons said.
When Simmons walked outside, an on-duty officer approached her and informed her of the lightening strike. The officer said debris flew into neighbors' yards.
Fire crews inspected the area, but did not see any signs of fire.
