LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - Amy Johnson is a lawyer. In 2004, she and a colleague were looking to get involved in a cause and met with several local ministers from various denominations.
One of the preachers told the story of a basket of fruit that was given to the homeless, who couldn't enjoy it because of bad teeth. That gave Amy Johnson the inspiration she need to get on the ground floor of Harmony Clinic.
Since the doors opened in 2008, the clinic has handed out over 4 million in health services, including almost 700,000 in dental services.
Is it any wonder Amy Johnson was nominated to win a National Community Health Leadership Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation? She was one of 400 nominated, and won!
Named to the Top 10, the Foundation out of San Antonio, Texas, is awarding Harmony Clinic a grant of $105,000, and it was all made possible by a basket of fruit.
