Wynrick Smothers added to 2012 Walter Payton Watch List
CONWAY, Ark. - University of Central Arkansas quarterback Wynrick Smothers earned his league-high fourth Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week award on Monday and sophomore kicker Eddie Camara his second after the Bears' 48-30 victory over Eastern Illinois on Saturday at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
Smothers, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound junior from Destrehan, La., threw four touchdown passes for the second straight game and third time this season. He completed 71 percent of his passes, with career highs in completions (35) and attempts (49) while throwing for 335 yards. It was Smothers' third 300+ yard passing game this season.
Smothers spread it around, competing touchdown passes of 26 yards to running back Jackie Hinton, 14 yards to receiver Dezmin Lewis, 37 yards to receiver Jesse Grandy and 6 yards to tight end Chase Dixon. The Bears rolled up 457 yards of total offense, their third highest total of the season.
Smothers now has 2,852 passing yards this season, with 31 touchdowns, one short of tying the school record set last season by Nathan Dick.
Camara kicked a career-long 48-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 25-yarder in the third period. He was also a perfect 6 of 6 on point-after attempts. For the season, Camara is 52 of 53 on PATs _ including 51 consecutive _ and is 10 of 12 on field goals.
