JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) - Arkansas State women's basketball head coach Brian Boyer announced Monday that Leachville, Ark., native Brittany Fowler has signed at National Letter of Intent to continue her basketball career at Arkansas State.

Fowler has been a four-year starter at Buffalo Island Central High School in Monette, Ark., where she has accumulated numerous accolades. She is a three-time 2A-3 North conference MVP, a three-time all-state selection, a three-time all-state tournament team selection and athree-time all-NEA Tournament team selection.

"Northeast Arkansas has always had very good girls' basketball but there have not been many players accomplish as much as Brittany Fowler," Boyer said. "By the time her senior season is finished she will be recognized as one of the best to come out of this part of the state."

During her sophomore season she helped lead the Lady Mustangs to a semifinal appearance in the 2A state tournamentwhere she scored 28 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out nine assists against Mountainburg.

As a freshman she scored a career-high 45 points against Midland and helped BIC reach the Elite Eight of the 2A state tournament. During the 2010-11 season she made 81 percent (220-271) of her free throws and was ranked as the No. 8 free throw shooter in the nation by MaxPreps.com.

For her career, she has helped Buffalo Island Central to a 91-26 record and has averaged 19.5 points, 4.6 assists a game and 6.1 rebounds per game. She is a career 79 percent free throw shooter and has a career field goal percentage of just over 50 percent.

"One of the things I love about Brittany is her competitiveness," Boyer said. "She's involved in so many activities outside of basketball but has the ability to step on the court and flip a switch into this ultra competitive athlete. She has not only been successful in high school but she has challenged herself throughout the summers playing on traveling teams and that is where I have really seen that competitiveness come out. Brittany is a scorer and has a knack for putting the ball in the basket."

During her junior season she was selected as the 103.9 The Game Northeast Arkansas Female Basketball player of the year and also made her third appearance on The Sun's NEA Best Under The Sun all-area basketball team. As a freshman, The Sun also selected her as the area's Newcomer of the Year.

Fowler joins guard Jamie Ruffins (Little Rock, Ark.) and forward Aundrea Pipkins (Fresno, Texas) as current ASU additions during the early signing period.
