LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (ATU) - Arkansas Tech tennis coach Abby Davis has been selected by the Arkansas Tennis Association to receive the Barbara Brewer Community Service award, the ATA recently announced. The award is given annually to recognize outstanding contributions and dedication to the development and promotion of tennis in Arkansas communities.
"It's an honor to receive this award," said Davis. "This award would not be possible if not for the tremendous support given to our program by our President, Dr. Brown, and our athletics director, Steve Mullins. They have continually and enthusiastically supported our community outreach programs, which have benefitted our program tremendously."
The 2012 Great American Conference Coach of the Year, Davis' involvement with tennis goes beyond her role at Arkansas Tech. Davis has served as the Arkansas River Valley Tennis Association (ARVTA) President for the past three years, and has worked to develop relationships and partnerships within the River Valley. In 2011, the ARVTA was recognized as the Member Organization of the Year while Davis received the Victor Sheshunoff Meritorious Education Award.
Davis will receive the award at the ATA Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet during the Arkansas Annual Tennis Weekend, held on Friday and Saturday, February 8-9, 2013. The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the Hilton Garden Inn in North Little Rock, Ark.
For more information on the banquet, or to purchase a ticket, please call the Arkansas Tennis Association at (501)227-7611.
