THV 11 is partnered with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, and this Thanksgiving, we feature a girl hoping for a 'miracle.'
Her name fits her perfectly: Miracle. She is just that, and she has something to say.
"I do good things," says Miracle. "(Dawn) Like what? (Miracle) I help people get across the street and clean up the whole house."
That's just one thing she wants you to know about her with the desperate hope that you'll bring her home and with the hope that you will be her miracle.
Miracle loves every shade of pink, and she likes to paint, which is why we spent an afternoon doing just that at Little Rock's Painted Pig ceramics studio.
She chose a puppy for herself, an ice cream sundae for me, and we painted away.
"What do you want to be when you grow up? THV's Dawn Scott asks. "A singer," Miracle says.
Until then, she wants to be a cheerleader.
"Cheerleading, gymnastics... it's fun to do cart wheels," says Miracle.
Miracle has been in foster care almost her entire life. A family adopted her once, but DHS pulled her out of the home.
"(I) got adopted, then back in foster care," says Miracle. "(Dawn) What happened? The family that adopted you was nice or not so nice? (Miracle) Not so nice."
Miracle also has no recollection of her birth mother, something that haunts her to this day.
"I wonder sometimes and then get upset, think about it a lot," she says.
But no upset this day. Only laughter and talk of her painted puppy, which she named Caitlyn, and my sundae, which she calls a miracle.
"I love it," says Dawn. "I think Caitlyn is beautiful and my little miracle creation over here is..." Miracle interrupts to say "Adorable!" then laughs.
Also this day, there is a lot of talk of giving thanks, all from a girl who seemingly has every reason not to.
"I'm thankful for the earth, for parents," says Miracle. "I'm thankful for babies and I'm thankful for a lot of things."
THV 11 would like to thank the Painted Pig for allowing us to come in and paint for the afternoon and also for donating the ceramics.
