MONTICELLO, Ark. (UA-M) - University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball coach Peter Cruz has revealed a list of four high-school seniors that have signed National Letters of Intent to play volleyball for the Cotton Blossoms. It is Cruz's first signing class after recently completing his first season as UAM's head coach.
Cruz has received signed NLIs from Fort Smith Southside (Ark.) High School's Kylie Ballard, St. Benedict Auburndale (Tenn.) High School's Brittney Beckham, Greenwood (Ark.) High School's Alexa Black and Mount St. Mary (Ark.) Academy's Olivia Iriana.
Cruz visited with uamsports.com recently to discuss the signees and other activities during the offseason.
Ballard, a 5-3 libero from Fort Smith, will join the Cotton Blossoms after leading Southside to a Class 7A Runner-Up finish this past season.
Beckham, a 5-8 setter from Cordova, Tenn., was named her team's most valuable player this past season and earned a spot on the "Best of the Preps" list in the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
Black, a 5-11 outside hitter from Greenwood, was selected to the 2012 Class 6A All-Tournament Team after leading Greenwood High School to a runner-up finish in this past season's state championship tournament. Black was also a member of Greenwood's 2011 Class 5A State Championship team.
Iriana, a 5-10 setter from North Little Rock, was an all-state and all-conference selection this past season at Mount St. Mary and helped her team reach the quarterfinals of the 2012 Class 7A State Championship Tournament.
