LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - One of the most popular Christmas time flowers is the Poinsettia. It makes a wonderful holiday gift for your friend with a green thumb, but what if you want to go for something a little different?
The first thing you want to consider is floral Azaleas. They come in an array of different colors, including white, pink, red, and purple. The great thing about the Azalea is that when it's done blooming indoors, you can plant it outside and then have it for years to come.
Another idea for you is the common Amaryllis. How you display the Amaryllis is what makes the difference. Put it in a glass vase to make the bloom look beautiful, and add a birch branch in there to help hold it up so it doesn't fall over.
Other types of bulbs you might want to consider are the Paper White Narcissus. I love these because they're fragrant. Now some people do not like the strong smell, so if you have people that are kind of sensitive to fragrance it might not be a good plant. Nonetheless it's easy to grow.
Don't forget about the orchid. So many of us get so intimidated by Orchids, and we're afraid to give them as a gift because we think they are hard to grow. But the Phalaenopsis, or Moth Orchid, is so easy! It's minimum care, and it only needs about two tablespoons of water per week.
Pick up something different from a Poinsettia for your gift this holiday season.
