FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KTHV) - A Fayetteville man is sentenced to eight years in child pornography case.

The U.S. Attorney's Office of the Western District of Arkansas announced Stephen Charles Smith, 60, got eight years in prison without the possibility of parole for receiving or downloading child pornography from the Internet. He was also ordered to pay $5,000 and to serve 20 years supervised release when he gets out of prison.

In a joint investigation of Homeland Security and Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, authorities were looking into child pornography distribution and trade in northwest Arkansas.

Stephen Smith was developed as a suspect. When authorities searched his home, they found multiple large screen monitors and several computers that contained child pornography. When Smith was taken into custody he admitted to downloading and possessing child porn.

At Smith's sentencing hearing Federal District Court Judge Hendren was given evidence that Smith had over 25 different videos of child porn.

United States Attorney Eldridge commented, "Victimizing innocent children is horrendous and inexcusable. Every time a video or image involving sexual abuse of children is downloaded or viewed, those children are re-victimized. We will continue to aggressively prosecute cases such as this and hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable."
