SALINE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) -- The Saline County Quorum Court is voting to create a voluntary animal control tax.
Two dog attacks back in November re-ignited the debate about how to deal with animals. County cases are handled by the Sheriff's Department, and right now, only Benton, Bryant and Haskell have animal control.
Court member J.R. Walters said the tax is just $5 if you choose to pay it.
"We're going to start off with just dealing with a vicious animal. And the Humane Shelter is going to let us have 6 pens that we can house them in," explained Walters.
There have been concerns about whether or not the voluntary tax will be able to pay for the service.
Walters said they won't know until October if it's feasible when taxes are paid.
