CONWAY, Ark. (KTHV) - A dad who planned on delivering a backpack to his child ended up locking down Conway Junior High School Friday.

According to Conway Police Dept. public information officer LaTresha Woodruff, a man wearing a camouflage jacket with backpack reportedly walked up to the school Friday morning and began pulling on several locked doors, asking to be let in. Several students saw him and told a teacher.

Woodruff said the school was put on a level 2 lockdown, meaning no one could leave or be let in the building.

She told THV 11 News that the man left the campus by the time police arrived and was last seen near Corner Pantry on Donaghey Avenue.

The school canceled its lockdown, while police kept an eye out for the suspect.

About 4 p.m. Friday, Woodruff said police had more information on what led to the situation. A child had called his dad, saying the school was on lockdown because a man with a backpack was trying to get in the building. When the dad realized he was likely the mysterious man, he contacted police and explained the situation.

Woodruff said everything was fine at the school.
