RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (ATU) - On the heels of winning three of four games over No. 25 Missouri Western with seven runs batted in, Arkansas Tech University senior baseball player Cesar Abreu has been named the Great American Conference Player of the Week.
Abreu earned his first player of the week honors, along with Southwestern Oklahoma's Shane Martin earning GAC Pitcher of the Week.
Abreu hit .500 in five games over the weekend. After going 3-for-3 in the Wonder Boys' home opener against Ottawa University, he hit safely in all four games against No. 25 Missouri Western State. He hit .400 in the series with seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases. In the opener against the Griffons, he drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth after being hit by a pitch.
The Wonder Boys will travel to Bethany, Okla. on February 15 and 16 to play against Southern Nazarene. The game is scheduled to being at 2 p.m. on Friday and Noon on Saturday.
