BENTON, Ark. (KTHV) - A Benton Police Officer has been fired from the force.

According to public information officer Lt. Kevin Russell, Officer Heath Ward, 32, was fired Feb. 15 for violating the Benton Police Department's policies and procedures after he was pulled over and arrested by Bryant police for DWI earlier in the month.

Russell said Ward had been an officer for two and a half years, and during that time, he had violated no other policies or procedures.

"Police officers at our agency are held to a high standard of integrity, and these types of incidents are taken very seriously," Russell explained.

According to the Bryant incident report, Ward was arrested Feb. 9 when an officer noticed his gold, Ford Taurus speeding along Highway 183 near the northeast ramp and on Interstate 30 without using a blinker to switch lanes.

The report indicated that Ward had watery eyes and smelled of alcohol when he was pulled over and was subjected to field sobriety tests and a breath test. He provided a blood alcohol content sample of .08 percent
