BRADFORD, UK (CBS) -- A delivery man in northern England admitted on Tuesday that he was the mystery person dressed as Batman who handed a suspect into a police station in the middle of the night.

Closed-circuit television footage showed a portly figure wearing an ill-fitting costume, bringing a 27-year-old man to a police station in Bradford in northern England. The images went global after the man disappeared into the night.

Delivery man Stan Worby said he agreed to go with his friend Danny Frayne, who was wanted by police, after the friend rang him during a football match.

"Well, I had gone to Wembley to watch Bradford City play in the final. Now when I was at Wembley, I got the phone call off Daniel asking me I'd bring him to the police station," Worby told the ITV television station.

"So obviously, after the game, I set off for home, got home, roughly about one o'clock. Come on home, got my car. And obviously I took him down to police station. Obviously it was done as a joke. That was the main thing," Worby said, still dressed in the costume.

Worby said he was "gobsmacked" that his images had gone global. "I didn't expect this. At the end of the day, it was a practical joke, just between me and Daniel, really. And then I get phone calls yesterday morning," he said.

Worby said he looked bigger in the pictures because he was wearing a track suit underneath the costume.

"I have got my full track suit underneath. I'm not just wearing this - it's too thin," he said when asked about his appearance.

Worby's friend has been arrested and charged with handling stolen goods and fraud-related offences, police said.

The suspect was handed over in the early hours of February 25, said police who released photos of the footage on Monday (March 4).
