ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (ATU) - Sophomore Rebecka Surtevall carded a final-day 79 to finish with a two-round score of 158 (+14), earning individual medalist honors by one stroke as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns golf team finished in third place at the Candlewood Suites Classic at St. Joseph Country Club on Tuesday.
Surtevall rallied from two strokes back to pass Southwest Minnesota State's Krista Weiszhaar, who finished one stroke behind Surtevall in second place.
The Golden Suns combined to shoot 334 on day two, a five-stroke improvement from the first day of play. Arkansas Tech finished six strokes behind overall champion Minnesota State-Mankato and four strokes behind second-place Augustana.
Taylor Kline turned in a top-ten finish for the Golden Suns, tying for tenth after improving two strokes to 82 on day two. Megan Jeffery tied for 14th after also improving her opening day score by two strokes, finishing with a round of 170 after shooting rounds of 86 and 84. Shelby Jones and Megan Kelley both finished tied for 34th place, shooting rounds of 181.
The Golden Suns will play in one more spring tournament, the First Federal Bank Invitational hosted by Henderson State University in Branson, Mo. on April 8-9, before traveling to Hot Springs to compete in the Great American Conference championship on April 14-16.
